School Day

When I asked her to tell me everything about school her response was, "Oh mom it is such a long story as it was such a long day!" And so it begins. The unintentional exclusion of her mother as she begins her journey to independence. I would be lying if I didn't admit to feeling wistful.

The sign of a school girl.
Waiting.

Thinking.

Going.

Ascending.

Returning, safely.

Oh, I love those pictures. And yes, it's poignant. I get less and less information from my kids every year about what goes on in school.

As it should be, but that doesn't make it hurt any less.

When Gen started school, she wouldn't tell me about it. I wanted to know, and it frustrated me. The more I tried to know, the more she was tight lipped. Then we started playing "two truths and a lie." I would tell her two truths about my day, and a lie. She would have to guess, then do the same for me. It really opened her up to bubble forth about everything!

Here's some tricks.
1. Ask her what she had for lunch. Then ask her who she sat with. When what did she do right after lunch and right before. ( sometimes you need to break and wait awhile between questions )

It is not that she doesn't want to tell it hard for her to identify events in the EVENT of a day.

2. Start a new tradition at dinner. Everyone has to tell their favorite part of the day--you will get lots of info then.

Let me know how it goes!

PS G came home today

So cute! One of the girls tells me everything about her day, the other I have to squeeze it out of her!
