It was not an easy decision, I am sure

Today I learned that dear friends of mine had a baby 37 years ago and gave her up for adoption. This was revealed to their oldest daughter in December of 2007.

My friends were 17 when they made this difficult decision and for them, it was the right one. They went on to get married and have 5 beautiful children.

Their oldest daughter and I talk sporadically and today we talked for a long time. Today we searched the internet, her at her home in Maryland and me here. She called me hours later to tell me she had found her sister or someone she thought was her sister. She emailed her and got a response.

I cannot fathom what is going through the young lady's mind right now after having been contacted by her sibling. I have goose bumps running up and down my entire body.

seeing the reverse side of this (the adult child contacted by birth family) so many times in my life, I just hope this sister has had a healthy and stable upbringing. If she hasn't, regardless of the ages of her birth parents, it will devastate her to know that they went on to marry and have a family...

Wow! I can't imagine how they are feeling right now ... a mish-mesh of emotions, I am sure.
